Description
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The primary purpose of this role is to provide project assurance by monitoring and validating the EPC contractor’s schedules. The Project Planner ensures alignment between resourcing and project milestones, identifies potential schedule risks or scope creep, and provides the Owner’s Team with accurate visibility of construction progress to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget
Key Performance Areas:
- Consolidate the EPC contractor’s schedules into a master project schedule to ensure alignment with the Heap Leach Project’s overall milestones and Swakop Uranium (SU) requirements.
- Critically review and validate the contractor’s weekly and monthly schedule updates to ensure logical sequencing, realistic durations, and accurate reporting of actual progress versus planned.
- Conduct regular site walk-downs to physically verify that the “percent complete” reported by the EPC contractor matches the actual construction status on the ground.
- Analyse S-curves and productivity data to track project performance, providing the PPD department with early warnings regarding budget or schedule overruns.
- Evaluate the schedule impact of any proposed scope changes or variations, ensuring that “scope creep” is quantified and approved before implementation.
- Review the contractor’s resource histograms to ensure they have sufficient manpower and equipment mobilized to meet the upcoming construction windows.
- Compile high-quality weekly and monthly project progress reports, including dashboard visualizations of schedule health for the HL Construction Manager.
- Maintain and update the project schedule risk register, performing “what-if” scenarios to test the impact of weather, supply chain delays, or labour issues on the completion date.
- Coordinate with the Document Control Officer to ensure all technical data, IPCs (Interim Payment Certificates), and as-built schedules are correctly filed and cross-referenced.
Requirements
Requirements and experience:
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
- Relevant NQF Level 5 / 6 Diploma in Construction / Project Management.
- Minimum 5 years of project planning experience in large-scale mining or infrastructure construction projects.
