Key Performance Areas

 

•    Execute geotechnical programmes or project work as directed by the Supt Geotechnical & Surveying/Principal Resource Geologist.
•    Ensure programmes are completed on time and on budget.
•    Collect geotechnical data through mapping, core logging, slope and dump inspections and slope monitoring instruments.
•    Continually execute geotechnical activities while incorporating historical data in order to provide input for slope design parameters to the mine planning section.
•    Collect the evidence to support risk analysis and acceptance for mine development and dump design and deposition.
•    Give geotechnical input into blast designs to minimise wall damage.
•    Provide technical assistance to mining operations in identifying and managing rock fall hazards.
•    Implement assigned monitoring systems in order to minimise the risk of slope failure to personnel and equipment.
•    Continually monitor pit and dump design implementation and operational controls by mining operations in order to ensure adherence to geotechnical requirements.

 

Minimum requirement of the role

 

•    A recognized Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/ Mining/ Geological/ Geotechnical Engineering or Geology.
OR
•    A recognized National Diploma in Civil/ Mining/ Geological/ Geotechnical Engineering or Geology.
•    Valid code 08 (B) Driver’s License
•    A Postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering will be an added advantage.

 

•    For Degree Holders: A minimum of five (5) years working experience in a Geotechnical Environment of which 3 years should be in an Open-Pit Geotechnical Environment and three (3) years should have been at supervisory level.
•    For Diploma Holders: A minimum of seven (7) years working experience in a Geotechnical Environment of which 3 years should be in an Open-Pit Geotechnical Environment and five (5) years should have been at supervisory level.

 

Required Competencies and Skills

 

•    Strong understanding of slope monitoring techniques
•    Good knowledge of database development and validation
•    Functional knowledge in the use of 3-dimensional geologic and CAD modelling software
•    Functional knowledge in the use of 2-dimensions slope stability software
•    Supervisory skills
•    A sound competency in slope monitoring systems and data interpretation.
•    Strong understanding of slope monitoring techniques
