PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Manage allocated Namib Mills Distribution & Logistics departments and develop new, more efficient, cost-effective service levels for customers.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Management of Logistics Departments
- Ensure that transport costs remain competitive and cost-effective.
- Ensure effective negotiation contracts with transporters and maintain the required documentation.
- Negotiate all tariff adjustments effectively.
- Ensure overall stock levels as per calculated standards.
- Ensure that all Namib Mills depots comply with Namib Mills standards.
- Operate the department efficiently within budgetary limits.
- Draw up, introduce and maintain ISO work instructions and procedures related to the department.
- Manage export distribution-related issues.
2. Manage all Distribution Departments
- Ensure the cost-effectiveness of depots in the department.
- Ensure the effectiveness of depots is maintained.
- Ensure prescribed stock levels are maintained.
- Determine and maintain ordering cycles.
- Ensure effective working relations with sales and operations departments.
- Ensure effective management of the company’s fleet.
- Determine and implement adequate model stock holdings.
3. Administration
- Maintain credit note approval policy according to company standards.
- Ensure appropriate daily & monthly reports.
- Maintain prescribed customer claim policies.
4. Fleet Control
- Ensure accurate record keeping of all accidents.
- Implement and maintain a Fleet Monitoring System.
- Monitor fleet fuel consumption records and all other related matrices.
5. Financial
- Compile the annual budgets and compare the budgets to determine variances.
- Take corrective actions to ensure adherence to the allocated Budget.
- Managing all “CAPEX” equipment purchases in the departments.
- Reporting on financial expenses monthly.
- Ensure internal audit observations and findings are addressed and resolved.
6. Staff Management
- Ensure training and development of personnel.
- Be actively involved in departmental annual Workforce Planning.
- Initiating disciplinary enquiries on the depot management level, handling of grievances, and providing guidance as required.
- Ensure compliance with company HR standards and procedures.
- Be involved in the recruitment process of all senior depot staff.
- Ensure good Human Resources practices.
- Communicate performance requirements timeously with senior staff
- Measure productivity and efficiency of senior staff, do performance appraisals of senior managers.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies.
7. Ad Hoc Duties
- Adhere to ad hoc tasks as required by the General Manager to ensure efficient operation of the department.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
- Bachelor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management Honours (NQF 8) or similar qualification with 10 years of experience in the FMCG industry, including ambient, cold chain and bread products.
OTHER
- Computer Literate with a good mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Namibian citizen.
- Driver’s license.
- Proficient in written & spoken English.
