HOD: Mineral Resources Management – SWAKOP URANIUM

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Manage the mineral resources department in terms of production geology, exploration / drilling programmes and resource evaluation to ensure the sustainable availability of mineral resources to meet mining plans and business requirements.

Key Performance Areas:

• Manage the Swakop Uranium (SU) Mineral Resource / Geology Management plan, systems, policies, procedures, control standards, measures and programmes, aligning them to strategic business and mining objectives.
• Co-ordinate and monitor departmental effectiveness against short-term mine plan.
• Design and implement improvement plans to mineral resource and mining programmes, systems and internal controls.
• Establish the infill drilling programme.
• Provide guidelines to create the geological and resource model.
• Report on mineral resources.
• Maintain and update the current grade control system.
• Appoint and liaise with Geotechnical consultants regarding programme.
• Establish ore accounting system, which reconciles with the metallurgical accounting system.
• Update and validate reserves and resources, including near mine exploration programmes.
• Establish and manage a slope stability programme of the open pit, dumps and stockpiles.
• Comply Swakop Uranium’s (SU) Mineral Resource / Geology risk assessments, reports and statistics to meet company and statutory requirements.
• Manage the Mineral Resource / Geology Department budget and cost control systems and processes.

Requirements and experience:

• BSc Honours degree or similar qualification in geology.
• MSc qualification an added advantage.
• 12 years’ experience of which 5 years’ should have been on a Senior Management.
• Sound experience in mineral deposits, geological engineering and production geology.
• Resources evaluation and ore accounting system experience.
• Experience in validating reserves and resources, including mine exploration programmes.
• Experience in assessing the geotechnical and hydrogeological aspects of the mining operation.
• Experience in managing slope stability programme of an open pit, dumps and stockpiles.
• Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
