Blasting & Emulsion Plant (Rössing Site)
Purpose of the Job
To safely supervise and coordinate blasting and related activities within the mining area, while leading the blasting team to achieve safe, efficient and effective operational performance.
Key Performance Areas
- Supervise and coordinate blasting activities to ensure safe and effective execution.
- Ensure the availability and effective utilisation of blasting resources, equipment and accessories.
- Monitor blast patterns and ensure compliance with blast designs, procedures and explosive regulations.
- Conduct blasting quality control, including drill hole, explosive density and stemming checks.
- Control the issuing, return and reconciliation of explosives and blasting accessories.
- Coordinate blasting activities with mining, geology and other operational teams.
- Lead, coach and develop blasting personnel to achieve operational and safety targets.
- Ensure compliance with SHEQ standards, statutory requirements and good housekeeping practices.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 10 or 12 certificate (20 point minimum)
- Valid Open Pit Blasting Certificate
- Valid Code 08 Driver’s Licence
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years’ blasting experience in a surface mining environment
- Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience in blasting or experience gained through an acting supervisory role
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of blasting techniques in large hard-rock open-pit mining operations
- Ability to interpret blast designs and tie-up plans
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
- Good technical problem-solving abilities
- Basic understanding of blasting cost structures
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
